How to Play
You will need:
- One printed game board
- One die
- A small game piece for each player
Follow these simple steps:
- Place all game pieces on the START space.
- The first player rolls the die.
- Move the game piece forward by the number shown.
- Read the word on the space.
- Tap the circles while saying the individual sounds.
- Slide a finger along the arrow and blend the sounds to read the complete word.
- If the word is read correctly, the player stays on that space.
- Players continue taking turns until someone reaches FINISH.
For example, when a child lands on the word cat, they tap and say:
/c/ – /ă/ – /t/
Then blend the sounds together:
cat
An adult may provide support when a child finds a word difficult. The goal is to encourage careful sound blending and build reading confidence.
Skills Children Can Practice
These printable games help children develop:
- Letter–sound recognition
- Short-vowel identification
- Digraph recognition
- Phonemic awareness
- Oral sound blending
- CVC word reading
- Vocabulary development

The tapping circles provide a helpful visual reminder that words are made from separate sounds. Moving a finger toward the arrow encourages children to blend those sounds smoothly into a complete word.
